Wedding Photographer in Sussex
Relaxed Documentary Wedding Photography for People Who Want to Feel Like Themselves
I’m Annamarie, a documentary wedding photographer based in Sussex, and I’ve been photographing weddings here for 16 years.
If you’re currently deep in the “there are SO many photographers” phase (surrounded by open tabs, deep in wedmin, wondering if it’s too early for another coffee!), feeling a bit overwhelmed and wondering how on earth you’re meant to choose the one, you’re not alone. Finding the right Sussex wedding photographer is a bit like dating. Lots of options, lots of scrolling, and a strong sense that when it’s right, you’ll just know.
This page is here to help you figure out whether that might be me.

Choosing a Sussex Wedding Photographer Isn’t Just About the Photos –
EXPERIENCE & VIBE MATTER
Let’s be honest, choosing a wedding photographer isn’t really about finding “the best” one.
It’s about how you feel around them. When couples talk to me, the things they’re usually trying to work out are:
- Will we feel comfortable with them?
- Will they be nice to have around our family and friends?
- Will they know when to step in, and when to step back?
- Will our photos actually feel like us?
If you’re reading this thinking “yes, all of this”, then we’re probably very much on the same wavelength.
This is where my experience comes in. I’m calm, friendly, and easy to have around. I’ll happily chat with your nan, blend in with your mates, and keep things feeling relaxed. Couples often tell me it feels like having a trusted friend there, rather than someone “doing a job”. After 16 years of photographing weddings in Sussex, I know how to read the room, put people at ease, and give you space to be yourselves, while quietly making sure everything is beautifully captured.
That balance is what allows your photos to feel NATURAL, RELAXED, and genuinely YOU.
Wedding Photography Across Sussex
Living in Sussex means I’m genuinely local to the weddings I photograph. I know the area well, I’m close to your venue, and there’s real comfort in knowing there are no long journeys, overnight stays, or travel dramas involved. It’s one less thing for you to think about on the day, and it means I arrive to you calm, settled, and ready to focus on what matters.
I photograph weddings throughout East Sussex and West Sussex, including:
- Barn and farm weddings
- Country estates
- Coastal celebrations
- Intimate weddings at home
Knowing venues well means less stress, better use of light, and a smoother flow to the day overall.

PLANNING YOUR SUSSEX BARN WEDDING?
If you’re still weighing up barns, houses, coastal spots and everything in between, I’ve rounded up some of my favourite Sussex wedding venues to help narrow things down. Real insight, no fluff, and plenty of reasons why they work brilliantly for relaxed, natural photography. Click the yellow button below…
Barn weddings are brilliant, but they come with their own rhythm and quirks. I’ve pulled together a planning guide that covers the bits most couples ask me about: what to think about when you visit venues, how light and flow affect your day, and practical things that make the whole vibe feel smooth and relaxed. My aim is simple…to give you photos that feel honest, emotional, and completely you, without turning your wedding into a photoshoot
FAQs
Q: HOW DO WE KNOW IF YOU ARE THE RIGHT PHOTOGRAPHER FOR US?
If you’re drawn to natural, documentary photography and you want to feel comfortable, relaxed, and able to be yourselves, that’s usually a very good sign. Clicking with your photographer matters more than ticking boxes.
Q: What IF YOU HAVEN’T WORKED AT OUR VENUE BEFORE?
That really isn’t an issue. While I know many Sussex venues well, what matters more is experience and being able to adapt. I’m used to arriving somewhere new, finding the best light, and working things out quickly. Weddings don’t always go exactly to plan, so staying calm and flexible is far more important than having photographed a venue before. You can see venues I’ve worked at before by browsing my blog or below in the “Real Sussex Weddings” section.
Q: WHAT IF WE LOVE YOUR WORK AND OUR VENUE ISN’T in Sussex?
No worries at all. While I’m based in Sussex, I’m always happy to travel for weddings elsewhere. If we’re a good fit and I’m free on your date, I’ll happily pack my bags and come along for the ride.
Q: DO YOU CAPTURE WEDDINGS ACROSS THE WHOLE OF SUSSEX?
Yes, I photograph weddings across East Sussex and West Sussex, and I’m very familiar with local venues after many years working in the area. You can see some of my favourite Sussex Wedding Venues here.

DOCUMENTARY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY (IN REAL LIFE)
Documentary wedding photography means I focus on what’s really happening, not staging moments or forcing anything to look a certain way.
In practice, that looks like:
- You being able to relax and enjoy your day
- No awkward posing or constant instructions
- Space for real moments to happen naturally
I’m there, paying attention, reading the room, and quietly capturing the story as it unfolds. I’ll step in when it helps, and step back when it doesn’t. Knowing when to do each comes from experience, and from being genuinely good with people.

A QUICK WORD ON INVESTMENT
Wedding photography is one of the few things that lasts long after the day itself. The flowers fade, the cake gets eaten, and the dress goes back in its box, but your photos are what you’ll come back to again and again.
I work best with couples who value photography, trust the process, and care about how their day feels as much as how it looks. If that sounds like you, we’ll probably get on very well.
Full details are shared once you get in touch, so we can make sure everything fits what you’re planning.

Cissbury Barns Boho Wedding
Veronica and Luke’s Cissbury Barns Boho Wedding was a delight to capture. For them they wanted the whole day to be about their guests being relaxed and having the best time. Cissbury Barns certainly delivered on that, with it’s rustic yet elegant vibe, and stunning South Downs backdrop.
